MSF treats 30,000 malnourished children in Katsina
Medecins Sans Frontieres, also known as Doctors Without Borders, a renowned charity organization providing humanitarian medical care, has delivered critical aid to 30,000 malnourished children in Katsina State between January and June 2023.
Madam Elsie Siboe, the group’s Health Promotion Manager, revealed this vital information during the 2023 World Breastfeeding Week commemoration event held in Katsina. The organization treated the malnourished children in eight health facilities strategically situated across the state.
Expressing concern over the alarming data on malnutrition in Katsina State, Siboe emphasized the urgent need for government intervention to eradicate this life-threatening scourge. She said: “There is an urgent need for government to intervene to eradicate the scourge. Within our facilities, we were able to treat 6,000 children, where we have a 340-bed capacity and we are expecting that it might increase.”
MSF, known for its commendable projects in conflict zones and countries affected by endemic diseases, currently provides nutritional services to malnourished children in 10 health facilities in Katsina, particularly focusing on Mashi and Jibia Local Government Areas.
The recent report has indicated that Katsina State bears the highest number of malnourished children in the country, making the need for immediate action all the more pressing.
With the steadfast efforts of organizations like Doctors Without Borders, there is hope for a brighter and healthier future for the children of Katsina. However, urgent support and intervention from the government are crucial to address this critical issue and protect the well-being of these vulnerable young lives. Together, we can pave the way for a healthier and happier generation in Katsina State.
